Miami City Ballet’s triumphant return to Chicago featured two programs and two very full houses at the Harris Theater. On Saturday, April 30, ten dance students from Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts) had the opportunity to watch the company in rehearsal and to speak with two members of the company.
Between pieces, principal soloist Callie Manning, who has danced with Miami City Ballet since 1999, and corps de ballet member Erik Trope, joined the students for a Q&A. Topics ranged from preventing and dealing with injury, to life as a professional dancer on tour, to adapting to different choreographic style and movement vocabulary when learning a new work.
In addition to the open rehearsal and Q&A, the Harris Theater provided more than 90 underwritten tickets for young Chicago dancers from After School Matters, Chicago Academy for the Arts, ChiArts, and Curie Metro High School to see Miami City Ballet perform onstage.
