Resident Companies

The Harris Theater provides capacity-building support to its Resident Companies through marketing, ticketing and production assistance, along with programs and resources designed to help companies make the most of their time at the theater.

The Learning Lab provides a forum in which Resident Companies can learn and grow from the successes and failures of their peer organizations. The theater serves as both a training center and “incubation laboratory” for its Resident Companies, providing a forum for peer learning and collaborative growth among the artists in residence at the theater. Each year, the theater presents a series of three progressive workshops in a single theme.

Harris theater toolkit

The Harris Theater Toolkit was created to give incoming and existing Resident Companies a comprehensive guide to use of the theater. The Toolkit outlines the technical specifications, key staff contacts, logistical details and areas of support available to the organizations that call the theater home. Toolkit content will be updated and portions will be reprinted to complement the new Resident Resources website, launched in 2014.

Resident resources website

The goal of the Resident Resources site is to provide dynamic, centralized resources for all Resident Companies. Building on the printed HT Toolkit, this password-protected, Resident Companies-only extension of the Harris Theater website features regularly updated Toolkit content, downloadable forms and checklists, and materials from Learning Lab and Tessitura User Group workshops.

The Harris Theater uses Tessitura, a comprehensive database which integrates development, marketing and ticketing functions for leading arts and cultural organizations around the world. The Theater is the primary licensee in a consortium of four Chicago performing arts organizations who share use of the database.

Fee-based membership in the Harris Theater Tessitura Consortium is available to all Resident Companies and peer organizations in Chicago. Benefits of membership include access to training workshops and other professional development opportunities.
