This summer, the Harris was home to one of After School Matters’ Summer Dance Ensembles – officially named the After School Matters Dance Ensemble at the Harris Theater. From June until August, 26 teens and their teachers were in residence in the Prince Charitable Trusts and the William N. Wood Prince Family Rehearsal Room – the same studio space used by the Harris’ 35 resident companies, and the many national and international artists who perform on its stage each year.
Miami City Ballet’s triumphant return to Chicago featured two programs and two very full houses at the Harris Theater. On Saturday, April 30, ten dance students from Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts) had the opportunity to watch the company in rehearsal and to speak with two members of the company.

Scottish Ballet’s Streetcar Named Desire was one of the highlights of the Harris Theater’s 2014-2015 season. The engagement was also a highlight of our arts education partnerships this year, when soloists Constance Devernay and Victor Zarallo, and Artistic Director Chris Hampson, conducted a master class for 20 high school students.
In the week leading up to Alonzo King LINES Ballet’s engagement at the Harris Theater, founder and artistic director Alonzo King conducted engagement activities for high school students.
On Monday, March 2, Mr. King led a choreography workshop for 20 dance students at Chicago Academy for the Arts. In addition to learning some of Mr. King’s choreography, the students developed their own movement and vocabulary throughout the class. All 20 students then had the opportunity to see LINES Ballet perform on the Harris stage later in the week.
