Mandala South Asian Performing Arts presents award-winning Indian violinist Ambi Subramaniam, hailed as “India’s Itzhak Perlman” by OZY Media, performing with the Mandala Music Circle, including Mandala’s Chethan Anant on bansuri, Fareed Haque on guitar, Anvita Hariharan on Carnatic saxophone, percussionist and music educator Juan Pastor, and multi-instrumentalist and storyteller Shanta Nurullah.

A prodigious talent and son of the legendary violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam, Ambi pushes the boundaries of music, intertwining traditional Indian classical music with modern sensibilities. His performances are a testament to his virtuosity and deep understanding of music's diverse expressions. Ambi has mastered the intricacies of Indian classical music and excels in Western classical repertoire, making him a versatile and innovative musician.

Ambi's collaboration with the Mandala Music Circle is a vibrant dialogue between musicians from various backgrounds, creating a rich tapestry of sounds that celebrate the depth and diversity of Indian music. Ambi Subramaniam

Ambi Subramaniam has been trained by his father and guru Dr. L. Subramaniam from the age of three, and gave his first performance at the age of seven. He has received awards and recognitions including the Ritz Icon of the Year Award, the Rotary Youth Award, two Global Indian Music Awards, and was awarded a ‘Golden Violin’ from Sri Jayendra Saraswati when he was 18.

Hailed as "the new king of Indian classical violin" (The Times of India) and “India’s Itzhak Pearlmann” (Ozy Magazine), Ambi has performed around the the world including the prestigious Dussehra Festival at the Mysore Palace, the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, the Jay Pritzker Pavillion in Chicago, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Maximum India Festival at Kennedy, the Royal Opera House, Muscat, and the Philharmonie de Paris in Paris. Ambi was a featured soloist for the Sounds of India program featuring talented instrumentalists from around the country. Ambi has been invited to perform at TEDx events to expose new audiences to Carnatic music, and at age 13 was invited to present a concert for the then President of India HE APJ Abdul Kalam for the Pravasi Bharitiya Divas.

He has received recognitions including the Ritz Icon of the Year Award, the Rotary Youth Award, two Global Indian Music Awards, and was named among GQ's 25 Most Influential Young Indians in 2021. Apart from performing, Ambi is actively involved in teaching. Along with his sister Bindu, he runs the SaPa in Schools program, which teaches music to over 45,000 young children in schools. He has co-authored over 20 textbooks in total, including India’s first series of textbooks dedicated to teaching the Carnatic violin. Ambi is also a youth delegate at the United Nations for the Sri Chinmoy Peace Meditation group. Ambi endorses D'Addario strings and Realist violins.

Ambi has an MBA in Finance, a Ph.D. in developing a global violin technique and an LTCL in the western violin from the Trinity College of Music.
