Miami City Ballet’s triumphant return to Chicago featured two programs and two very full houses at the Harris Theater. On Saturday, April 30, ten dance students from Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts) had the opportunity to watch the company in rehearsal and to speak with two members of the company.
On the evening before his Chicago debut, Mexican tenor Javier Camarena visited (and sang!) with 50 children and families at the National Museum of Mexican Art. Presented in partnership with Lyric Unlimited, the event included students from Merit School of Music’s Holy Cross Choir Program, Mariachi Heritage Foundation, and the Chicago Mariachi Project.
On Saturday, January 30, Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet made its Exelon Family Series debut with Around the World with Kronos. Along with special guest Van-Anh Vanessa Vo, Kronos performed music spanning 4 continents and 9 countries. Following the performance, all audience members were invited to participate in a Q&A with the artists.
The Harris opened its 2015-2016 Exelon Family Series and new Mix at Six series with AXIS Dance, a physically-integrated contemporary dance company from the Bay Area.
